CORNER CHURCH COLUMBIA HEIGHTS
Coming in Fall 2022
•We are called to be a church within walking distance of people in our city. • We are seeking to accomplish this calling by planting new church communities.
Meet Pastor Rachel & Her Husband Mike
We dream, we build community, we laugh a lotWho We Are
Rachel: mom, wife, pastor, singer, aspiring coach, pretends to be a coffee snob, a shoulder to the broken-hearted, a defender of the underdog, a microphone magnet. Favorite quote: “Stay awkward, brave, and kind” - Brene Brown.
Mike: husband, dad, software developer, problem solver, learner. Loves to play golf, read, write and draw.
Our heart for Columbia Heights is to connect, love, and partner with the community to build community. We want to be a place where everyone can feel welcome, belong, and be known; a place where people can search, seek and find; a place that serves and partners with the community.
Our History
When I (Rachel) was about 5, like so many families, my parents divorced. My family was hurt deeply by addiction and unhealthy family dynamics. The most important influence in my life was my children’s pastor and his family. He was a steady presence in my life, and he was almost like a second dad to me. He helped me feel unconditionally loved and accepted. Because of his influence, I never felt like I was going through difficult times alone, and I developed a close relationship with Jesus. This past year he died unexpectedly, and his death reminded me of how important it is to follow after the dreams God puts in your heart.
Mike grew up going to church only on Easter and Christmas. He didn’t really know what it meant to have a personal relationship with Jesus, but he felt like something was missing from his life. When he was 25, a close friend invited him to church. Before he really understood the impact Jesus would have on his life, he got involved in this church plant in Issaquah, WA. Through seeking out who Jesus was and how Jesus could impact his life, Mike committed his life to being a Jesus follower.
Early on in our friendship, we talked about what church could be. Our friendship deepened because of our excitement of what church could be. We knew we wanted to be a part of a place that welcomed everyone no matter where they were in life. We wanted a church to be a part of the community and to serve their community. Corner Church is a place like that. Corner Church Columbia Heights will be a place like that.
